20 practical gift ideas for stylish people’s homes
My clients often tell me that finding a gift for someone who has just moved into a new home is one of the hardest “tasks.”
I always tell them to personalize their gifts according to the recipient’s tastes. For someone who loves curios, an unusual decorative piece would be lovely. For an art connoisseur, a beautiful adjustable wooden easel may be best.
As an interior designer, I find that my friends are more comfortable giving me food or drinks, which I love. Working in this field, however, I also appreciate gifts that are useful, unusual or both. This article aims to help you with just that: finding stylish yet practical presents for new homeowners.

A hallway rug
A beautifully patterned hallway rug with a classic or transitional motif will be much appreciated. It can give the hallway a fresh look while adding more personality to the space.

An adjustable wooden easel
As mentioned, a large adjustable wooden easel would be greatly appreciated. It can hold a large painting or even a TV for a corner setup.

Pillows
This can be a little tricky, since the pillows would have to somewhat match the recipient’s space. You need to know what the home already looks like before giving this item. Pillows are also something new homeowners sometimes forget to buy, so they will likely be well received.

A drink table
A drink table is perhaps the smallest piece of furniture I know that still looks substantial. It is as tall as a side table but only slightly larger in diameter than a large goblet. It is designed to hold cocktails or wine glasses while you sit on a sofa away from the coffee table.

A Lucite book holder
An angled Lucite book holder or stand can hold large coffee table books while also serving as a decorative display.

A lamp warmer
I prefer these warmers to lit candles for obvious safety reasons. They are also not too expensive to give as gifts.

A rechargeable lamp
It is best to give a pair or more. These are useful as dining table lighting, reading lamps or buffet décor.

Coffee table books
These are always appreciated and can feel very personal, so make sure the books match the recipient’s interests.

Personalized desk pads
These add a beautiful touch to a workspace. They are both practical and personal.

A Ginori plate set
For those feeling extra generous, almost anyone would be thrilled to receive a Ginori plate and tableware set. These come in multiple colorways and can be mixed and matched.

Trays
Trays can have many uses. They can be used for serving, holding tea sets, organizing knickknacks on a coffee table or keeping makeup and other items in place. A tray made from a beautiful material, such as silver, stone or fine exotic skin, will be well appreciated. Lagaluche trays are among the most beautiful pieces.

A caviar set
Anyone would love to receive this as a gift. A mother-of-pearl spoon and a tin of caviar are enough.

A cashmere throw
A cashmere throw is beautiful both to use and to display. Enough said.

A cake stand
A cake stand is something I would never buy for myself but would love to receive. It can also double as a serving stand.

A Moleskine recipe journal
This is a must for people who love to cook. In this digital age, I would love to receive a journal where I could keep printed photos, recipes and other cooking inspiration in one organized place.

A robot vacuum
Wow, and more wow! The recipient may kiss you even more for this present. A robot vacuum will save them time while giving them a helpful little cleaning companion at home.

Soft, well-made table napkins
Believe it or not, these are among the items I have the hardest time finding. They should be pure cotton, easy to wash and beautifully designed. I have been loving the brand Napking lately for its large floral designs that really stand out.

An unusual umbrella stand
Quirky pieces such as an umbrella stand, book stand or stool can make an interesting addition to almost any style of interior. Qeeboo has some great pieces.

A towel stand
I recently came across a stainless steel towel stand. It has a marble base and feels quite sturdy.

A beautiful mirror
A mirror can look like a work of art when displayed on the right wall.
