D&L Industries posts stronger Jan-Sept bottom line

D&L Industries Inc., a listed specialty food ingredients and oleochemicals producer, is well on track for double-digit income growth this year after its diversified business segments emerged stronger despite persistent external factors hounding the market.

In a media briefing on Friday, D&L president and CEO Alvin Lao said that the group’s earnings in the first nine months had hit P2.24 billion, up 14.9 percent from the year-ago P1.95 billion.

The firm’s third-quarter profit likewise increased by 32 percent to P735 million.

“While the business environment continues to be challenged by unresolved geopolitical tension, local inflationary pressure, coupled with a depreciating peso and higher interest rates, the company was able to post earnings growth of 15 percent for the first nine months of 2026,” Lao said.

The firm’s food ingredients business also posted strong results, with earnings soaring by 77 percent and margin improvement logged at 2.7 percentage points.

Specialty plastics’ earnings jumped 30 percent year-on-year, despite supply chain woes triggered by the Middle East war. This, as D&L already secured critical inputs, ensuring adequate supply to consumers.

High margin specialty products (HMSP) also accounted for 51 percent of total sales during the period, reflecting a shift toward higher-value products.

With investments in research and development and technical capabilities aimed at expanding HMSP, D&L is confident the segment will secure an even bigger share of the sales mix.

Another factor lifting its margin recovery is the stabilization of coconut oil prices, one of the group’s key raw materials, which reached around $2,000 per metric ton.

The company’s export business, supported by its new facility in Batangas, contributed 23 percent of total sales.

“The continued growth of our exports provides a natural hedge against our foreign currency exposure from imported raw materials,” Lao said.
