Distinct island living at Escana Boracay

Amy Remo

Escana is a 5.1-ha leisure development rising on this secluded area in Boracay called Station Zero. Few moments can rival the wonder of chasing sunsets.

At least for a city girl like me, getting to witness that cascade of colors as the skies turn from a brilliant blue to shades of fiery orange, soft pink, and velvety purple will always be an experience beyond compare—more so, every time I get the chance to have that precious yet fleeting moment of solace on the shores of a beautiful tropical island paradise like Boracay.

Timeless gem

I went on a three-day getaway in this sun-kissed island earlier this week to get ahead of the crowd that’s expected to soon flock Boracay’s 4-km stretch of powdery white sand beach and crystal blue waters.

As soon as I stepped foot here, I was reminded once more why Boracay remains a timeless gem—a place that holds a special spot in the hearts of travelers around the world. I felt instantly soothed by the familiar sight of the towering, mature coconut trees, the lively crowds of tourists strolling along the island’s western coastline, the glistening sea under the scorching sun, and the iconic paraws—a Boracay trademark, I must say—that gracefully glide across the horizon, their billowing sails painting a picturesque scene against the vivid blue sky.

And I did what any tourist would do: joined the crowd and walked from Stations 1 to 3, ate my favorite bacon slab at Sunny Side Cafe, got my Coco Mama dessert (a favorite among tourists judging by the queue!), went island hopping and stayed in Puka Beach, and ate some more.

I ventured into the quieter side of Boracay, too—getting lunch at Cielo Poolside Restaurant in Shangri-La Boracay where I spent an entire afternoon just walking along its pristine beachfront. And I realized that this area, which it shares with a couple of other owners, is probably one of the best spots to witness the beautiful sunset of Boracay—arguably, still one of the best islands in the world.

It’s like having a front row seat to a mesmerizing show, but in a serene space where I can simply soak in the golden hour’s splendor. It’s enough to make me want to find my own space here, right within this very spot, away from the bustle of the restos and crowds of the main White Beach.

Tropical retreat

It’s fortunate that in this very spot, too, will soon rise a beautiful tropical retreat.
