CRAVITY PHONE RAID: THEIR FAVE APPS, CHAT GAMES, PLAYLIST
There’s nothing about technology that could faze Cravity. Definitely not the few minutes of delay on Zoom because of a connection problem that this writer was having that day. The members smiled kindly and were reassuring despite probably having spent the entire day meeting with the press from different parts of the world.
Serim, Allen, Jungmo, Woobin, Wonjin, Minhee, Hyeongjun, Taeyoung and Seongmin sat huddled together in a room. It was a few days before the release of their comeback mini album titled “Evershine,” their seventh album in their almost-four-year career.
The group debuted in April 2020 under Starship Entertainment at the beginning of the pandemic, when the world was slowly closing its borders. This probably explains the group’s immense patience with Zoom connection issues. They met their Filipino fans for the first time last year at their “Masterpiece” concert.
During the interview, their dynamics became obvious. Their leader Serim let the members shine by letting them talk more. There was a very good translator present but Allen and Taeyoung tag-teamed in translating for the rest of the members. The trust was obviously there because when the members were unsure of their answers, they always looked at Allen to check if they were saying things correctly in English.
Allen also subtly translated some of his members’ answers by reacting to them in English. It was very sweet. All of them like to dote on their maknaes (youngest members). The maknaes enjoyed the attention they were getting from their hyungs (older brothers).
Cravity fills their TikTok account with trendy challenges that show their fun side. It led us to wonder what apps they open when they wake up in the morning.
“I like Pokémon Sleep. It analyzes your sleep,” Taeyoung said. “Then when you wake up, it shows you how much deep sleep you got. That’s the first thing I check when I wake up.”
“Bubble,” Serim answered. Bubble by Starship is an app that fans subscribe to so they can talk to the idols directly.
When he wakes up, Allen likes to check what their tasks are for the day. “I turn on KakaoTalk. And I use it to check our schedules for the day.”
Meanwhile, Jungmo said that the first app he uses every day is the Clock app to turn off the alarm. He proudly shared that he saved Serim’s name on his phone as Park hyung. Park is the surname of Serim. He then pointed at each member and recited their surnames to say that this was how he saved their numbers.
“That’s not special,” Taeyoung said.
“It is special,” Jungmo insisted. Seongmin and Woobin saved the other members’ numbers under their first names. Hyeongjun has a different system. “I saved their names with hearts at the end,” he said. Each member got a heart in a different color.
Wonjin is green, Seongmin is orange, Allen is white, Jungmo is purple, Woobin is red, Taeyoung is brown, Serim is pink and Minhee is blue.
They have a game they play in their group chats, too.
“We started uploading old photos, like old selfies and funny pictures of each other and then we started making it a competition. Whoever writes the funniest caption wins,” Allen said. He added that Wonjin wins this competition because he’s clever and funny.
Borrowing money
Money emergencies can happen at any time and Hyeongjun said that he would borrow money from Minhee because he’s kind. Minhee answered that he’ll lend his friend money because he’s loyal but that he’s not rich. He pointed at Jungmo as someone with money. Jungmo, on the other hand, said that he will borrow money from Wonjin.
“Wonjinnie is my favorite friend, my best friend. He must give me (money), he has no choice,” said Jungmo. The members laughed at his answer while Wonjin smirked and said in a tsundere manner, “He can think what he wants.”
They also gave us a peek at their phone wallpapers. Taeyoung has a photo of a kitten standing on its hind legs. Allen’s wallpaper is a photo he took of the night sky. He drew on the photo, connecting the stars to form constellations, including his zodiac sign Taurus. He likes stars and constellations.
Jungmo uses a black background to save on batteries. “I’ve had this wallpaper for five years now,” he declared.
Seongmin has his CCrew character Tommy on his phone—but it’s a version he drew himself.
The members also shared their playlists. Taeyoung listed “Welcome to the Show” by DPR Ian, “Slow Dancing” by V, “Eyes” by Jay Park, “My Love Mine All Mine” by Mitski and “Falling Behind” by Laufey. Allen listens to “Angels Like You” by Miley Cyrus, “Smile Again” by Blackbear, “I Got You” by Twice, “Agora Hills” by Doja Cat and “Redrum” by 21 Savage.
Hyeongjun’s current playlist includes “Easy” and “Smart” by Le Sserafim, “Skipping Stones” and “Loser=Lover” by TXT and “Guard You” by Young K.
Their album “Evershine” features six songs. The title track “Love or Die” is a rock-infused, fast-paced dance song about loving something so much it hurts. Allen and Serim share writing credits for this track. The group said that this song is about Luvity (their fandom name).
“‘Love or Die’ means that we’ll die if we don’t have our Luvity so we hope the Luvity who we love so much will enjoy it,” Minhee said.
He added that they like “Over and Over” from this comeback, too. This is a song Allen wrote the lyrics for. Other songs from “Evershine” include “C’est La Vie,” “Cherry Blossom,” “Mr.,” “Worst Thriller” and “Over & Over.”
