BillEase bags P1-billion credit facility from PNB

Emmanuel John Abris

Philippine National Bank (PNB) has extended a P1-billion credit facility to consumer finance platform BillEase, giving the Lucio Tan-led lender exposure to the growing retail consumer credit market.

The facility, BillEase’s first with PNB, uses the Personal Property Security Registry (PPSR). This gives the bank a registered first-rank claim over a pool of BillEase’s consumer loan receivables.

The PPSR is a centralized movable-asset registry created under the Personal Property Security Act or Republic Act No. 11057.

Through the registry, PNB will hold a secured interest over BillEase’s consumer loan receivables.

The facility uses a conservatively over-collateralized structure designed to protect PNB throughout the life of the loan.

Under the arrangement, BillEase will pledge more customer loans than the amount it borrows, keeping the collateral above the outstanding balance.

The pool will also be refreshed regularly, with repaid or delinquent loans replaced by new ones.

Repayments from customers whose loans are tied to the facility will follow a set order of priority, with PNB paid first.

Roberto Abastillas, executive vice president and institutional banking sector head at PNB, said BillEase’s portfolio quality across different market cycles gave the bank confidence to establish the partnership.

“We see this as the beginning of a broader partnership and look forward to exploring additional opportunities to work together,” Abastillas said.

The deal comes as BillEase expands its funding base to support the growth of its consumer lending business.

Based on its audited 2025 financial statements, BillEase’s revenues surged by more than 80 percent to P8.7 billion, while net profit reached P782 million.

This marked its third consecutive profitable year.

The platform’s gross loan book grew by more than 77 percent to about P12.5 billion, while total assets reached P13.7 billion.

BillEase said it now onboards more than 200,000 new customers and disburses over P5 billion monthly.

The PNB facility forms part of BillEase’s strategy to increasingly fund its growth through local partners. It follows the fintech firm’s acquisition of a rural bank, which is expected to expand its offerings to include savings and deposits while improving its funding profile and cost of capital.
