BIZ BUZZ: FAO PH welcomes new member
The Philippine office of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has welcomed a new team member—although its latest recruit runs on technology, not on caffeine.
The United Nations agency recently deployed Ms. FAO AI Philippines, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered interface intended to bridge the gap between technical expertise and real-world decision-making.
According to the FAO, the virtual assistant will enable the organization to make faster and more informed decisions, especially in times of crisis.
Ms. FAO AI Philippines is designed to make its repository of knowledge more accessible and operational.
The new AI assistant, launched during the recently held Asian Development Bank’s Asia-Pacific Food Systems Transformation Forum, can utilize FAO’s knowledge base to provide context-specific insights and communicate them in a clear and accessible manner across multiple languages.
“We are not only producing knowledge. We want to ensure that this knowledge is accessible, actionable and directly useful for those who need it most, from policymakers to farmers and fishers,” FAO Representative in the Philippines Lionel Dabbadie said.
The global organization hopes that Ms. FAO AI Philippines can help make the Philippines’ agrifood systems more productive, more efficient and resilient and better prepared for future shocks.
