BIZ BUZZ: Mama Sita’s throws support behind UP softball team
The UP Women’s Varsity Softball Team is in the thick of preparations for the UAAP Season 88 softball competition that is slated to begin next month, and they are coming in with brand new equipment courtesy of the family behind the beloved Mama Sita’s food brand.
Sophia Lapus, marketing manager of Mama Sita’s, and Isabel Lapus, CEO of Kosmas Athletic Ventures Corp., just turned over two KRYO Louisville Slugger composite softball bats to the team during a simple ceremony at the UP Diliman CHK Baseball Field.
Kim Lapus, general manager of Mama Sita’s and grandchild of Teresita “Mama Sita” Reyes and a UP graduate himself, was also on hand for the turnover.
According to UP associate professor and coach Francis Diaz, the bats will play an important role in enhancing the team’s training and overall performance as they head into the new season.
Mama Sita’s Food Corp. is one of the main sponsors of the UP Women’s Varsity Softball Team for School Year 2025–2026 and UAAP Season 88, demonstrating the company’s sustained commitment to collegiate sports and athlete development.
The company was there when the UP Softball Team successfully defended its championship title at the 2025 Makassar Open International Softball Tournament held in Makassar, Indonesia last October.
Sophia and Isabel lead the company’s community-building and youth-focused initiatives.
Kosmas, for example, is set to open and operate Helios, a pickleball facility in Bridgetowne, Pasig City.
Their involvement reflects Mama Sita’s and Kosmas’ commitment to investing in the next generation and using athletics as a platform to inspire leadership, confidence and positive impact among Filipino youth, the company said. —Tina Arceo-Dumlao INQ
