BIZ BUZZ: Metrobank rolls out perks as pump prices bite
Rising fuel prices are forcing Filipinos to rethink everyday spending, with mobility costs—from gas to tolls—taking a bigger bite out of household budgets.
Recent data shows inflation climbed to 4.1 percent in March, driven largely by transport costs, which jumped nearly 10 percent year-on-year.
With the Philippines heavily reliant on imported oil, these increases are quickly felt across the economy, spilling over to the prices of basic goods and services.
Against this backdrop, Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company is stepping up efforts to help motorists better manage recurring expenses tied to mobility.
The bank recently launched the Toyota Platinum Card, designed to address daily costs such as fuel, toll fees and vehicle-related spending.
Cardholders can save up to P15,000 annually through a 3-percent rebate on fuel purchases at any gas station and on toll fees, both locally and abroad.
The card also allows users to earn one reward point for every P20 spent on everyday purchases, including groceries and dining, turning routine expenses into added value over time.
For transactions with Toyota Motor Philippines dealers, users earn double rewards points, further incentivizing spending within the brand’s ecosystem.
Additional benefits include a 10 percent discount on genuine parts, accessories and labor at Toyota dealers nationwide, as well as zero-percent installment options of up to six months for dealer transactions.
Cardholders may also avail themselves of a 5-percent discount on Toyota Mobility rentals in the Philippines, expanding the card’s utility beyond ownership to short-term vehicle use.
Metrobank said the offering reflects a broader push to align financial products with how Filipinos actually spend, particularly as recurring expenses become more difficult to manage.
In an environment marked by rising costs, the bank is positioning practical financial tools as a way for consumers to plan better, spend more deliberately and make the most of everyday transactions.
