Marife Zamora, an icon in the corporate world through her leadership in women-focused organizations, wore a new hat on Wednesday.

But it’s not just any hat: She was elected the second woman independent director of SM Investments Corp. (SMIC), the country’s largest company in terms of market capitalization.

Zamora, cofounder of the Filipina CEO Circle, concurrently serves on the board of trustees of For The Women Foundation. She succeeds Tomasa Lipana, who completed her maximum term as an independent director.

“I’m truly honored to join SM’s board,” Zamora said in a statement. “SM mirrors the energy and growth journey of the Philippine economy. I look forward to contributing to a growing company deeply committed to independence and strong corporate governance.”
