BIZ BUZZ: UnionBank sees senior-level shuffle
Something’s quietly stirring at Union Bank of the Philippines.
In a disclosure dated Jan. 29, the bank informed regulators of a series of changes in its senior officer lineup, marking a notable management reshuffle set to take effect at the end of the month and early February.
Leading the list of departures is Rene Alan Aguirre, digital experience and development head and senior vice president, whose resignation takes effect on Jan. 31. Also stepping down on the same date is Gillian Justine Pua, product manager and senior vice president.
UnionBank also disclosed the exit of Ria Marie Pajado-del Mundo, relationship manager for private banking and assistant vice president, as well as Catherine Ann Santiago, enterprise architecture governance head and assistant vice president—both effective Jan. 31.
The legal and trade finance units will likewise see changes. Anne Chinika Tolentino will step down as senior legal counsel and assistant vice president on Jan. 31, while Jaime Garchitorena, trade finance head and senior vice president, will exit effective Feb. 1.
Adding to the leadership changes, UnionBank said Edwina Salvador, senior corporate solutions manager and assistant vice president, will retire effective Feb. 1.
Apart from Salvador, whose departure was due to retirement, a UnionBank source said the exits were part of the usual movement of bankers seeking better opportunities.
“No great loss of talent there,” the source added.
No replacements were named in the disclosure, leaving market watchers to speculate on how the bank plans to recalibrate its leadership bench as these departures take effect in quick succession.
For now, UnionBank’s message to regulators is clear: change is under way at the senior level, even if the next chapter has yet to be publicly written.
