BIZ BUZZ: Local lore, higher score

DigiPlus Interactive Corp. is lining up a bigger cast of Filipino characters for players’ screens—and the latest recruits include a few familiar monsters.

The Eusebio Tanco-led company hopes to release around 60 localized games in 2027, up from more than 30 expected this year, according to localization head Ray De Guzman.

That figure comes with a caveat: the development pipeline still has to cooperate.

“I don’t want you guys to hold me to 60, but that would be a nice number if we can hit that,” he said.

DigiPlus has secured two more intellectual properties for next year.

At least nine games based on the first are planned for the first quarter, with titles using the second expected to follow starting in the second quarter. Their identities remain under wraps.

For now, the company is letting the creatures of Regal Entertainment’s “Shake, Rattle & Roll” loose on its platforms.

Five franchise-inspired titles debuted on BingoPlus on Oct. 22, with phased releases on ArenaPlus and GameZone to follow.

More suppliers are also joining the localization push. Apparently, even the “aswang” has found a new hunting ground.
