CREC seeks to connect solar project to grid

A unit of Citicore Renewable Energy Corp. (CREC) is seeking the regulator’s approval for the construction of a P129-million transmission facility to link its solar project in Batangas to the Luzon grid.
Based on a document posted on the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) website, Citicore Solar Batangas 1, Inc. (CSBat1) has proposed to develop and own interconnection facilities for its 50-megawatt (MW) Luntal solar power project, located in the municipality of Tuy.
The company said it would “exclusively” fund the facility, composed of a plant switchyard and transmission line.
“The issuance of a Provisional Authority for the development and ownership of the dedicated facility project is necessary so that the project’s generated power becomes readily available for public use,” CSBat1 said.
“The completion of the project and the dedicated facility project within its projected time frame is critical to ensure that additional capacity to the Luzon Grid becomes available in a timely manner,” the firm added.
The group aims to make the solar development operational by October.
CREC has a target of activating one gigawatt (GW) of capacity every year, as its goal is to expand its portfolio to 5 GW by 2028.
This year, the firm expects its first GW to become operational.
Currently, its installed capacity is at 285 MW, sourced from 10 solar power facilities.
