FAST goes for rooftop solar power

Logan Kal-El M. Zapanta

FAST Logistics Group is targeting to install solar panels across its more than 160 warehouses nationwide, which would not only power operations inside, but also support charging infrastructure for the company’s electric vehicle (EV) delivery truck fleet.

In a statement, the country’s largest third-party logistics provider said it aims to fully utilize the roof space of its owned facilities, which span more than 2 million square meters.

This solarization initiative is significant as FAST operates the Philippines’ largest warehousing network.

It has more than 160 dry and cold-chain facilities that have more than 1 million pallet positions and an annual throughput exceeding 1 billion units.

“Our vision is to build a more resilient off-grid closed-loop electrification ecosystem where solar panels across our warehouses nationwide power our facilities, EV chargers, and fully electric trucks,” FAST Logistics CEO for Logistics Manuel Onrejas Jr. said.

FAST said its EV operations avoided nearly 244 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions between 2024 and 2025 compared with equivalent diesel-powered transport operations.

Despite the rollout, Onrejas acknowledged challenges to electrifying logistics operations in the Philippines, including low warehouse utilization rates, heavy traffic and the lack of commercial-grade charging hubs designed for trucks.

Still, he said such investments are becoming increasingly important as customers seek to reduce emissions while managing long-term operating costs.

FAST currently manages more than 3,100 trucks nationwide and works with over 900 trucking partners.
