Futuristic robot factory to rise in Batangas
Futuristic companion robots will soon be rolling out of Batangas, thanks to the Philippine expansion of a Taiwanese precision parts maker.
MDT Technologies Philippines Inc., the newly established local arm of Taiwan-based CQS Precision Die Casting Inc., has secured a 1.86-hectare industrial lot at LIMA Estate, where it plans to establish its first manufacturing base in the country.
And it will not be making just the usual metal parts as the facility will produce the Piebon Companion Robot, bringing robotics manufacturing into an already industrial-heavy economic zone that spans 1,100 hectares across Lipa City and Malvar in Batangas.
Slated to begin operations by the first quarter of 2028, the factory is expected to generate around 200 jobs while bringing to the Philippines the manufacturing capabilities of CQS, whose components serve industries ranging from automotive and electric vehicles to motorcycles and agricultural machinery.
CQS specializes in aluminum and zinc die casting, computer numerical control machining, stamping, surface treatment and assembly.
“We are pleased to welcome MDT Technologies Philippines to LIMA Estate as it takes this important step toward establishing its manufacturing operations in the country,” Aboitiz Economic Estates president and CEO Rafael de Mesa says.
“Our role is to provide a strategic location for businesses to move from investment decisions to operations and further grow their presence in the country,” he adds.
The project broke ground on Aug. 25, followed by the formal contract signing and turnover of the industrial lot on Sept. 15.
The Batangas facility will also expand CQS’ international manufacturing footprint, which includes a plant in Dong Nai, Vietnam, along with overseas warehousing that supports customers in the United States.
For LIMA Estate, meanwhile, the project adds robotics to a manufacturing ecosystem already populated by multinational manufacturers across a range of industries.
The Philippine Economic Zone Authority-registered estate hosts more than 200 locators and supports about 75,000 jobs, including those at major manufacturers such as Epson Precision Philippines and Yamaha Motor Philippines.
LIMA is also billed as the country’s largest privately owned industrial estate. About 80 percent of its sprawling estate is allocated to factories and other industrial facilities, with the remainder given over to commercial and residential developments.
