ICTSI secures $1-B loan from BDO Unibank
International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has secured a $1-billion loan from Sy family-led BDO Unibank Inc. as it pushes ahead with an aggressive expansion drive at home and abroad.
ICTSI disclosed the loan facility, which carries a tenor of 10 years, in a regulatory filing on Tuesday.
The latest funding surpasses the $750-million loan extended to ICTSI in 2023 by Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. At the time, that was the largest credit facility secured by the ports operator and the largest bilateral facility extended by Metrobank.
In May, ICTSI secured a $300-million loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to support the expansion and upgrade of three of its terminals in the Philippines.
That deal marked the Beijing-based multilateral bank’s first loan to the Philippine private sector that is not backed by the government.
While ICTSI did not disclose how it plans to use the latest loan from BDO, the financing comes as the global ports operator pushes ahead with its expansion plans and port upgrades.
The company operates 30 terminals in 19 countries spanning the regions of Asia-Pacific, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
In the first half of 2026 alone, ICTSI spent $320.05 million in capital expenditures, primarily to finance expansion projects in the Philippines, Mexico, Brazil, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Honduras, Australia and Ecuador.
For the full year, ICTSI plans to invest $740 million, 14 percent more than the $650.44 million it spent in 2025.
ICTSI has also been expanding through acquisitions abroad in recent months, including warehousing firm Companhia Regional de Armazéns Gerais e Entreposto Aduaneira in Brazil and port and cargo operator TLG Acquisition Holdings Proprietary Ltd. in South Africa.
