Megawide Construction Corp. and its partner Maplecrest Group Inc. have signed the deal with the provincial government of Cavite to build the P1.87-billion Cavite Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), which is envisioned to service 50,000 passengers daily by 2028.

In a statement on Friday, the listed company said its joint venture entity Cavite Rapid Transport Inc. had signed the 30-year concession to develop the 29-kilometer bus lane, which is initially designed to have a daily ridership of 10,000 passengers.

“The initial phase of [the project] will serve close to 10,000 daily passengers, with a target to increase ridership five-fold within three years, depending on Cavite’s progress. This is part of our commitment to providing world-class infrastructure for Filipinos,” Megawide chair and CEO Edgar Saavedra said.

Phases

Construction of the first phase will commence this quarter, with the target of starting operations by the third quarter. The entire stretch is expected to be up and running by 2028.

The first segment of the project includes three terminals with 27 stations that will traverse across Kawit, Imus, General Trias and Tanza.

The second segment comprises one terminal and 20 stations, which will be linked to Trece Martires via the New Cavite Provincial Capitol.

Megawide will also set up a point-to-point service from the BRT to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), which it also operates.

“Our focus on intermodal connectivity, efficient transport systems, and commuter-centered solutions aims to contribute to improving public transportation and enhancing mobility for Caviteños,” Saavedra said.

Megawide received the notice of award from the local government of Cavite on Jan. 8.
