PLDT takes full ownership of Radius Telecoms
PLDT Inc. has finalized its takeover of Radius Telecoms Inc., a fiber network operator previously controlled by Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), also a company led by Manuel V. Pangilinan.
In a disclosure on Friday, PLDT said it now owns 100 percent of Radius after completing the acquisition of the remaining 65.1-percent interest held by Paragon Vertical Corp., a subsidiary of e-Meralco Ventures Inc.
This closes a deal that the PLDT board approved in May, with the share purchase agreement signed in June. At the time, the transaction was still subject to regulatory approvals, including those from the Philippine Competition Commission and the National Telecommunications Commission.
PLDT paid P2.94 billion for the transaction.
That amount covers 4.65 million Radius common shares priced at P631.52 each. PLDT paid 60 percent of the purchase price at closing, while the remaining 40 percent is payable within 10 months from closing.
Before the deal, PLDT already held a 34.9-percent stake in Radius.
Radius holds a Congressional telecommunications franchise and owns fiber facilities that serve enterprise buildings, residential multi-dwelling units and villages. Its fiber footprint extends more than 11,000 kilometers (km) across Mega Manila, Clark and Cebu, according to its website.
PLDT’s own fiber network, for comparison, spans about 1.3 million km across the Philippines and overseas.
PLDT first bought into Radius in 2024, when it struck a P2.1-billion deal for a 34.9-percent interest. At the time, PLDT said Radius’ fiber network served 150 enterprise buildings, more than 200 residential multi-dwelling units and over 200 villages.
In the first half of 2026, PLDT saw its core income hold steady at P17.3 billion as growth in data and broadband offset declines in legacy services and other telecommunications operations.
Over the same period, net service revenues, excluding interconnection costs, inched up one percent to P97.8 billion. Gross service revenues increased by 2 percent to P108.7 billion.
