Tasty treats with added nostalgia

Since its inception in 1974, Chocfull of Nuts has been known for tasty treats like taisan (Filipino chiffon cake) and moist chocolate cake. Those two core products of the store, located at Shoppesville Arcade on the second floor of Greenhills Shopping Center in San Juan, are bestsellers, especially during the Yuletide season.

The moist chocolate cake, which the store traditionally sells per slice, now comes in a loaf, just like the taisan, according to Isabel Pineda-Ventura, who oversees operations. Both the chocolate (P380) and taisan (P270) loaves are packaged in festive boxes with a Christmas gift card to boot, making them ideal presents.

Sweet and savory in harmony

What the food gifts’ receivers will appreciate the most is the homemade goodness that Chocfull of Nuts has managed to maintain for 50 years. The taisan is so soft and buttery, with just the right amount of sugary taste. The chocolate cake is rightfully moist and rich, without excessive sweetness. Do take note, though, that the shelf life is only three days, with additional two if refrigerated.

“The brand has withstood the test of time,” said Pineda-Ventura, a daughter of its founder, Gillian Pineda. “It has become a generational thing.”

She then shared stories of customers who were kids when they first enjoyed the store’s pastries and other goodies. Their parents would bring them to the store after a trip to the amusement and recreational places around Greenhills.

“That’s why we have a campaign on our social media pages that encourages our customers to relive those nostalgic moments.” Check it out on Facebook and Instagram with the same handle, Chocfull of Nuts Since 1974 (@chocfullofnutssince1974).

The brand’s other sweet product is fudge brownie (P90), while the savory ones are cuapao (P95), asado siopao (P95), bola-bola siopao (P100), and premium pork-and-shrimp siomai (P100 for three pieces). They can be perfect additions to potluck Christmas parties and get-togethers.
