Marcos: Keep holiday celebrations simple
For the second year in a row, President Marcos has urged all government offices to keep their Christmas and year-end celebrations “simple and meaningful” out of respect for Filipinos still recovering from recent calamities.
Palace press officer Claire Castro said on Wednesday that the advisory, which Malacañang issued jointly with the Department of Budget and Management, aims to promote empathy and restraint among government workers.
“This is part of President Marcos’ solidarity with Filipinos who continue to face hardships due to successive disasters nationwide—from the earthquakes that struck the Visayas and Mindanao to the typhoons that hit several parts of the country,” she told reporters.
“Government employees are reminded that while celebrating Christmas is important, it must be done with awareness and compassion for those who are still recovering and rebuilding their lives after these calamities,” Castro added.
Mr. Marcos issued a similar call last year after six typhoons hit the country in succession.
