Over 72,000 cops on full alert for ‘Undas’
The Philippine National Police said it will be on full alert from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 ahead of the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day or “Undas,” with 72,501 police officers to be deployed for security and emergency response.
They will be supported by 16,892 personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard and other agencies.
This is in addition to 51,467 force multipliers, including barangay watchmen, radio groups, and other nongovernment organizations.
“This will be our personnel who will be guarding our thoroughfares, cemeteries, columbariums, transportation hubs, as well as tourist spots,” PNP spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co said in a press briefing on Thursday.
“We will be establishing public assistance desks which will be joined by emergency response teams as well as medical teams,” Co added.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has identified five major cemeteries in Metro Manila as priority sites for traffic management: Manila North Cemetery, Manila South Cemetery, Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City, San Juan Public Cemetery and Bagbag Public Cemetery in Quezon City.
