PNP looking for 3 scam hubs in Metro

The Philippine National Police is changing tactics in tracking down “micro-scam hubs” as illegal offshore gaming operators, formerly known as Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators or Pogos, reportedly adopt more discreet setups to evade authorities.

“We are recalibrating our police strategy from broad-scale raids to surgical, intelligence-driven operations utilizing cyber-surveillance, high-bandwidth usage tracking and community-level monitoring,” said PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. in a statement on Thursday.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier said they were monitoring three active “micro-scam hubs” in Metro Manila.

These reportedly operate in rented houses with just 10 to 20 people, unlike before when these were located in sprawling compounds that house hundreds of workers.

Nartatez also warned that current and former police officers found protecting or assisting illegal scam operations would be prosecuted.
