Probe urged after missing phone traced to Camp Crame
A youth group has asked the National Police Commission (Napolcom) to investigate the disappearance of cell phones belonging to two students who attended a Sept. 21 rally commemorating the 54th anniversary of martial law in Manila.
The youth group Samahan ng Progresibong Kabataan (Spark) wrote a letter to Napolcom Commissioner Vicente Calinisan seeking “an immediate, impartial and thorough investigation into the snatching of the mobile phones of two students during the protest along Recto Avenue, Manila.”
Spark said a confrontation broke out between protesters and police officers who were trying to arrest two rallyists.
Shortly after the rally which ended around 11 a.m., two students from the University of the Philippines and Rizal Technological University noticed that their cell phones were missing.
Spark said one of the phones was tracked through the Find My iPhone feature to be in Camp Crame at 12:18 p.m. and later, in Greenhills, San Juan at 12:43 p.m. Camp Crame is the headquarters of the Philippine National Police.
