Teves back in jail after appendectomy

Expelled Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. was returned to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), his lawyer Ferdinand Topacio said.

In a message to reporters on Wednesday, Topacio said his client was brought back to BJMP Annex 2 in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City. He was accompanied by a lawyer, security personnel and members of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force.

“He is still experiencing stomach pains of moderate intensity,” Topacio said, adding that Teves would request follow-up checkups at PGH.

The former lawmaker was brought out of detention and taken to a hospital on June 17 after he complained of severe abdominal pain.
