US Embassy grants P22M for evidence-based antidrug campaign

The United States Embassy bestowed a P22-million grant to several nongovernment organizations (NGOs) in the country to help strengthen the efforts to prevent illegal drug use and “advocate evidence-based policy” on the issue.

The grant was given by the post’s Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) to the Association of Anti-Drug Abuse Coalition of the Philippines Inc., an umbrella association of 42 community antidrug abuse coalitions in various parts of the country.

“The US government will continue to support the development of effective antidrug abuse coalitions and facilitate opportunities for sustainability at both the local and national levels,” INL Director Kate Riche said.It was given during the 6th National Conference Drug Abuse Coalition in Biñan City, Laguna, on Thursday that was attended by more than 130 delegates from different NGOs and government agencies.

During the conference, they received “training on coalition building, fostering community engagements, constructing logic models to address health disparities, and marketing and media advocacy.”

The grant is meant to be used over the next several years supporting multiple new and longstanding projects by the NGOs.The grant is part of the program “Sustaining and Scaling up Effective Anti-Drug Coalitions in the Philippines” funded by the US government. INQ
