Woman who sold kid online convicted for child abuse
A Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) has convicted a woman for child abuse for selling her own child online.
The Quezon City RTC’s Branch 84, in a decision dated April 14, sentenced the woman to up to six years and ordered her to pay a fine of P15,000 and up to P60,000 in moral, exemplary and temperate damages.
According to the court, the accused insisted on pleading guilty to the lesser offense of violation of Sec. 10 (a) of Republic Act No. 7610, or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
She also took back her guilty plea to the same offense in relation to the cybercrime law.
The Department of Justice, in a statement on Thursday, said it remains committed to going after offenders of child abuse and exploitation.
