The heavenly life in a high-rise home

Ar. Vittoria Mawis-Aliston

High-rise buildings serve as the foundation of progressive cities.

While people traditionally lived in houses closer to the ground, rising land costs and a growing population have made traditional homes increasingly scarce in cities. High-rise structures were developed to allow more people to live close to their places of work and study.

Today, condominiums fill the Metro Manila skyline, but some Filipinos remain hesitant to embrace life in high-rise structures. If you are among those wondering what it is like to live among the clouds, this might just ease your doubts.

Here are some reasons why condominium living is ideal for Filipino urban dwellers.

Convenient and accessible

For people who have to juggle house chores and work responsibilities, everyday life can be a struggle.

Living in a condominium can ease the difficulty, as most high-rise homes are situated near essential providers such as groceries, pharmacies, and shopping centers. This reduces your travel time and energy use, allowing you to spend more of your day doing your passions or bonding with your loved ones.

In addition, many high-rise homes are built near important institutions such as offices, schools, and hospitals. Families are enabled to move quicker and safer on a daily basis.

Living in a condominium save you time and gas often consumed in urban traffic.

Practical for the daily grind

Given the rising fuel costs and worsening traffic, living strategically inside the city is ideal for urban survival.

If you live in a condominium, your travel time and expenses are often at a minimum. Some residents can even reach their usual destinations by walking, which also serves as their exercise.

If you’re the type who works remotely, condominium living also offers several perks to you.

Given that many condominiums employ in-house maintenance teams, administration staff and security personnel, you can spend less time worrying about the safety and efficiency of your home. Usually, it’s easy to get someone to fix leaky pipes or broken circuits.

You also don’t have to shoulder the costs of maintaining the whole structure on your own, as association dues generally take care of maintenance costs.

A quick grocery run is possible late at night if you live in a high-rise home.

Conducive to a balanced lifestyle

Living in a condominium allows you to pursue your passions with little time wasted. Whatever sports or recreation that is close to your heart, you can have time for this given your reduced travel needs and maintenance requirements.

Most condominiums offer exclusive amenities that allow you easy access to pools, gyms, playgrounds and other activity areas. This is particularly convenient if you have little “me-time” available due to work or family responsibilities.

Amenities enable you to pursue a balanced lifestyle even if you think that you barely have the time and means to pursue it. High-rise homes provide most of your needs in one place, allowing you to live your life to the fullest right in one building.

Sustainable in the end

Contrary to popular belief, living in high-rise structures is a sustainable way to live.

It reduces your carbon footprint, as the energy that goes into running the building is shared with your neighbors. With less need for travel, your consumption of fuel is also reduced.

Less trees are also cut down because the building footprint of a tall tower occupies less than that of a cluster of homes in a subdivision. In short, living in a vertical structure is good for the environment.

Meanwhile, if you’re worried about losing your property over time, the general notion that condominiums only survive for 50 years is actually a misconception.

While the Condominium Act (R.A.no. 4726) does say that buildings over 50 years old can be demolished, there are several factors to be considered before this can be done.

The law states that the building should be proven obsolete, uneconomical and more than 50 percent of the condominium unit owners must agree that the building should be demolished. If the building in question is regularly maintained and beloved by its residents, buildings can live more than its predicted 50-year lifespan.

Ideal for the urban dweller

Overall, high-rise homes offer numerous benefits to the Filipino city lover. These homes are convenient, practical and sustainable. From young families to senior retirees, living in a condominium has many benefits for everyone.

If you’re looking to reduce travel costs, wasted time, and energy consumption, consider residing in a high-rise home. You might be surprised how city living is actually easy if you find the right condominium that can meet your needs.
