DICT, InfiniVAN launch ‘stronger’ digital backbone

The Philippine government and digital solutions provider InfiniVan, backed by Japanese telecom giant IPS Inc., have teamed up to strengthen the country’s digital backbone.
In a statement on Friday, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said it will work with InfiniVan to explore the possibility of deploying a nationwide government digital infrastructure in the Philippines.
Under an agreement, both parties would collaborate on developing a government backbone system, targeted to support the connectivity needs of government offices.
InfiniVan’s commitment is to make certain domestic and international network infrastructures available to the DICT.
The infrastructure will then be integrated into the DICT’s existing network and will be fully managed and operated by its personnel after receiving proper training and knowledge transfer.
DICT chief Henry Aguda also said that the tie-up will help the government boost connectivity access to more Filipinos. This, especially for those residing in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
“It will enhance both national and international connectivity, support the DICT’s free Wi-Fi service and promote infrastructure collaboration to strengthen resiliency and redundancy,” Aguda said.
“This partnership is more than just a collaboration; it’s a critical step toward a digitally empowered Philippines,” he added.
As of last May, the DICT has nearly 19,000 sites in more than 9,000 locations across the Philippines.
