BIZ BUZZ: Mactan-Cebu airport notches another win
Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has done it again.
The Aboitiz-run gateway has clinched the 2025 ASQ Best Airport Award in Asia-Pacific for airports handling between 5 million and 15 million passengers, the second straight year it has secured the citation.
This award measures passenger satisfaction based on surveys conducted while travelers are at the airport.
For 2025, some 707,700 passengers worldwide were polled, with MCIA emerging as one of 88 airports recognized for departure excellence.
For Athanasios Titonis, CEO of Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corp., which operates MCIA, the back-to-back win underscores the airport’s service culture.
“We are not just a point of transit, but a gateway designed to make travel efficient, comfortable and well-connected for all our passengers,” Titonis said.
“This recognition from our passengers affirms the dedication of our entire airport community in delivering Cebuano warmth and world-class hospitality.”
The accolade comes as MCIA rides a fresh wave of traffic growth. In January alone, the airport handled a record 1.3 million passengers, up 15 percent from a year earlier and the highest monthly volume in its history.
Beyond the ASQ nod, MCIA has also earned Platinum Green Airport status, Level 1 Accessibility Accreditation and was named Airport of the Year in Asia at the TDM Travel Trade Excellence Awards 2025.
MCIA will formally receive the ASQ award at the ACI World Airport Experience Summit in Istanbul in August. With two straight wins under its belt, the airport is cementing its status not only as Central Visayas’ main gateway, but as a rising contender in the Asia-Pacific.
