Toll waived until June 5 for newly opened section of Cavite-Laguna Expressway

Dexter Cabalza

President Marcos on Monday led the opening of the 7.88-kilometer Cavite-Laguna Expressway Subsection 3 (Calax SS3), which motorists can use toll-free for a month.

The 2×2 toll road lane connects Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange in Silang to Governor’s Drive Interchange in General Trias, Cavite, and is expected to make travel between southern Luzon and Metro Manila faster and more convenient.

“I can announce that it will open starting 12 midnight tonight, and for one month, there will be no toll. So to our fellow citizens, please use it. See and feel the significant relief that projects like this bring,” Mr. Marcos said.

Until June 5, drivers of all types of vehicles can use the Calax SS3 free of charge. They will only need to pay the toll for Calax Subsections 4 to 8, from Mamplasan in Biñan, Laguna, to Silang (Aguinaldo) in Cavite.

The newly opened portion of Calax can accommodate an additional 6,000 motorists daily, providing a faster alternative route for commuters and businesses by bypassing heavily congested local roads in Cavite’s growing industrial and residential corridors.

It is expected to further ease congestion and cut travel time between Biñan, Laguna, and General Trias, Cavite, from an hour to just 26 minutes, further strengthening south Luzon’s transport network.

It also significantly reduces travel time between Aguinaldo Highway and Governor’s Drive from 30 minutes to only six minutes.

Decade in the making

“And even if you work in Taguig, you can live here in Cavite. That’s why it’s really important that we finish this,” Mr. Marcos said.

“This has been 10 years in the making, and as usual, the difficulty we face in road construction is the right-of-way issue,” he added.

Work on the Calax SS3, which cost P4.196 billion, began in January 2024. With its opening, the operational length of Calax now spans 26 km from the Mamplasan Entry in Biñan, Laguna.

Once completed, the entire 44.6-km expressway will eventually link the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) in Kawit to the South Luzon Expressway in Mamplasan. As of March, the project is 82.37 percent complete.

Once fully integrated with Cavitex, the combined network is projected to serve up to 95,000 vehicles per day, acting as a regional backbone for trade and mobility.
