Ramos eyes breakthrough at Caliraya Springs
CAVINTI, Laguna—Sean Ramos returns to familiar territory this week carrying momentum and renewed confidence as he seeks a long-awaited second Philippine Golf Tour title in the ICTSI Caliraya Springs Championship beginning Tuesday at Caliraya Springs Golf and Country Club.
Fresh off a runnerup finish in Malaysia, where he lost in a three-man playoff in an Asian Development Tour event in Selangor two weeks ago, Ramos hopes to finally break through again on the local circuit.
“Definitely, I’m very hungry for a win after coming off a good week at ADT in Malaysia,” Ramos said. “I’m always thankful when I’m home and get to play the local tour.”
Ramos captured his maiden PGT title at the inaugural Lakewood Championship in 2024, edging veterans Tony Lascuña and Reymon Jaraula. Since then, he has established himself as one of the tour’s most consistent players while balancing campaigns on the Asian Tour and the ADT.
The 26-year-old golfer tied for seventh at Caliraya last year and believes the demanding course rewards discipline and smart decision-making as much as distance off the tee.
“I’m very excited to be back at Caliraya,” Ramos said. “It’s a good course and an event I look forward to every year.”
Despite his recent form, Ramos said he is trying to stay grounded heading into the P2.5-million championship, the second stop of the 10-leg circuit organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc.
“Same preparations with all my events. I have been working with my coaches to get my game in the right direction for this year,” he said. “I always try to play with no expectations, so I’m just hoping to put myself in contention and take it from there.”
