BIZ BUZZ: A seasoned hand for RCBC Securities

Emmanuel John Abris

RCBC Securities Inc. is putting a market veteran at the controls.

Parent firm Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) has appointed Rene Joseph Ner as senior vice president effective Oct. 1.

On the same day, he will be seconded to the bank’s brokerage arm as deputy chief executive officer.

The deputy role will be brief.

Ner is set to become president and CEO of RCBC Securities on Nov. 3, giving him just over a month to settle in before formally taking the helm.

But Ner will hardly need an introduction to the equities business.

He brings more than three decades of experience in institutional finance and stock markets in the region.

A notable part of his resume is a 12-year stint at Credit Suisse Securities Philippines, where he served as director and country head of equities.

Ner also handled postmerger integration work at AB Capital Securities. Before that, he held leadership positions at RBS Asia Securities and ABN AMRO Asia Securities

With Ner moving into the corner office, RCBC Securities appears to be betting that an old market hand can bring fresh momentum to its brokerage business.
