BIZ BUZZ: Don’t be fooled: BSP issues scam alert

Nyah Genelle C. De Leon

If there’s one thing that remains consistent in the local financial scene, it’s the sheer persistence of scammers—and the equally persistent advisories from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

For the nth time, the central bank is issuing another public reminder because, like clockwork, the scammers are always finding new ways to hustle and people, unfortunately, keep falling for the same old trick.

The latest advisory is a rerun of a classic hit: Do not trust individuals claiming to be BSP representatives.

According to the central bank, these posers are out there falsely using the names of BSP officers and personnel to either solicit donations or fish for some precious personal info.

“The public is advised to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of any communication or document purportedly issued by or associated with the BSP,” the central bank said.

To spell it out one more time for the people in the back: The BSP does not solicit donations. No monetary contributions. Nothing.

So, best to be vigilant and report any fraudulent attempts to the BSP. Consider the public warned. Again.
