BIZ BUZZ: Jollibee puts inclusion on the menu
Fast-food giant Jollibee Group is proving that retirement does not always mean stepping away from work—and that a disability need not be a barrier to employment.
The listed food service giant has expanded its inclusive jobs program to Taguig City, opening more opportunities for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in partnership with the local government.
Under the agreement, 16 company-owned stores across Jollibee, Chowking, Greenwich and Burger King in Taguig will participate in the initiative. Each outlet is expected to employ two senior citizens and one PWD, giving dozens of residents a chance to earn, interact and remain active in their communities.
The program is not exactly new. Since its launch in 2019, the initiative has already provided work opportunities to more than 1,000 senior citizens and PWDs across various local government partnerships.
Participants are not being assigned to the kitchen rush. Instead, they will take on customer-facing roles such as guest relations staff, table managers, drink drawers and order presenters—jobs that allow them to stay engaged while contributing to store operations.
Jollibee Group Philippines CEO Joseph Tanbuntiong summed it up best when he said the initiative gives senior citizens and PWDs a chance to continue contributing in ways that are “seen, valued and respected.”
After all, some people are not looking for retirement. They are simply looking for another opportunity to serve—with a side of fries.
