Converge eyes upskilling BPOs in AI
Converge ICT Solutions Inc. is teaming up with the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) to help equip the country’s nearly 2 million business process outsourcing (BPO) workers with artificial intelligence (AI) skills.
The fiber broadband provider said on Thursday that its partnership with IBPAP would open opportunities for collaboration on workforce development and digital transformation.
Converge CEO Dennis Uy said the company wants to help prepare the country’s information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) workforce for AI and “level up” workers’ capabilities to capture opportunities created by the rise of AI.
“Since we are a global hub of business process outsourcing along with India, I’ve wanted to help upskill workers, especially for artificial intelligence preparedness,” Uy said in a statement.
Uy noted that AI is rapidly changing business operations by taking over routine tasks at lower cost, thus making it necessary for the local workforce to move into more specialized and higher-value roles.
“We cannot deny that AI is here and will continue to transform industries,” he said. “The future of Philippine BPOs is in complex work, which requires upgrading our workforce from basic support to highly skilled specialists.”
“To make this shift happen, we are here to support the government and the private sector in driving the next wave of growth for this industry,” he added.
This initiative comes as AI adoption continues to expand across the IT-BPM industry.
