Spanish renewable energy firm eyes PH expansion

The Philippines may be included in the Asia-Pacific expansion plans of Grupo Enhol, a Spanish renewable energy company exploring new markets for clean power, energy storage and related infrastructure.

The Board of Investments (BOI) announced the development on Wednesday following an investment briefing with representatives of the Spanish firm and government officials on Dec. 3.

Apart from renewable energy projects, the BOI said the Philippines was also being considered for energy storage systems and other power-related infrastructure projects.

Discussions covered the investment opportunities across the Philippines’ renewable energy value chain, the country’s global shared services sector and the government’s facilitation services for foreign investors.

“The BOI also reaffirmed its commitment to providing the whole of government support to strategic investments that advance the country’s renewable energy goals and strengthen the Philippines’ position as a hub for innovation and sustainability-driven industries,” the agency said.

The Dec. 3 meeting was attended by Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines Philippe Lhuillier, BOI Investment Promotion Service Director Lanie Dormiendo and officials from the Department of Energy, Global Capability Center Council Philippines and the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Grupo Enhol was represented by Vicente Galdeano, its Asia regional head, and Adela Millan, business development manager.

If the firm proceeds with its expansion, it would add to the Philippines’ robust flow of energy-related investments. From January to November 2025, energy and power projects accounted for P479.78 billion, or 58.74 percent of the BOI’s total approved investments of P816.81 billion.

Renewable energy projects are also among the biggest beneficiaries of the BOI’s green lane program, which fast-tracks and streamlines the approval and registration of strategic investments.

In the first 11 months of the year, 60 approved green lane renewable energy projects reached P1.42 trillion, representing nearly three-fourths of the program’s total P1.92 trillion.

While primarily based in Spain, Grupo Enhol maintains operations in more than 20 countries across Europe, the Americas and Asia.
