To the rescue
The Philippines is home to more than 7,600 islands west of the Pacific Ocean. It sits within the Pacific Ring of Fire and is prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
Moreover, our country is continuously battered by heavy rains and flooding brought by southwest monsoon and low-pressure areas that wreak havoc to millions of Filipinos every year. In 2022 alone, damages caused by natural disasters amounted to about P30 billion.
Government sectors like the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), responsible for the protection of the social welfare of rights of Filipinos, while promoting social development, help aid in rescue and relief efforts during times of calamities.
In July this year, DSWD distributed about P70 million-worth of assistance to families and communities hit by Typhoon Carina. During these operations, reliable vehicles were needed to transport these goods to these calamity-stricken far-flung areas. This is where companies like Hyundai Motor Philippines, Inc. (HMPH) come into the picture.
Recently, the South Korean carmaker was able to hand over two additional units of the Hyundai H-100 light commercial vehicle to DSWD, bringing the total to four units that would help in the latter’s relief response operations.
In 2023, HMPH made a significant contribution through its first donation of two H-100 units to the DSWD-NCR Field Office. These vehicles have been, so far, essential in enhancing DSWD’s operational capabilities, enabling the efficient delivery of emergency goods and services as part of its disaster response mandate for affected communities.
The handover was conducted through a ceremony held at the DSWD Sanctuary Center, Mandaluyong City.
During the ceremony, HMPH executives: Jiho Son, president; Cecil Capacete, managing director and Hongshik Chin, chief finance officer attended. They were joined by DSWD representatives: Atty. Michael Joseph Lorico, DSWD regional director; Benchie Gonzales, assistant regional director for administration, and Dir. Bienvenido Jr. Barbosa, assistant regional director for operations.
“Last year, we donated two H-100 units to support DSWD’s disaster response, and management and outreach operations. And today, we continue to show our support through the additional units we will be handing over. This donation not only fortifies our partnership, but especially Hyundai Motor’s journey towards its vision, ‘Progress for Humanity,’” said HMPH company head honcho, Son, in his special message.
“We are honored to be in partnership with DSWD who continuously aims to uplift the lives of Filipinos.”
The said donation is a testament to the brand’s continuous commitment to providing mobility solutions to all Filipinos.
