NFA starts selling P20/kilo rice to farmers, workers

Rice farmers and farmworkers are now officially the latest beneficiaries of the government’s subsidized rice sale after 18 warehouses of the National Food Authority (NFA) in Central and northern Luzon began selling rice to them for P20 a kilo on Wednesday.

Eligible rice farmers tilling two hectares or less and farmworkers listed under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture can buy up to 10 kilograms monthly or 50 kilos all at once to cover their allocation from August to December.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the initiative will benefit around five million rice farmers and farmworkers on top of senior citizens, solo parents, persons with disabilities, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries and minimum wage earners.
