Palace, DPWH condole with Cabral family

Malacañang and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Friday expressed their condolences to the family of former Public Works Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral following the confirmation of her death early Friday.

Palace press secretary Claire Castro stressed that Cabral, a key figure earlier grilled extensively by lawmakers in the public works corruption scandal, was not facing any formal charges at the time her death.

“For now, we respect the privacy of Undersecretary Cabral and her family. At present, the President has not issued any directive, and once again, there is no case. Should there be any investigation, it will be up to the appropriate investigating bodies to handle it,” Castro said.

“We extend our condolences to the family left behind by former Undersecretary Catalina Cabral. What happened is truly saddening, and once again, we offer our deepest sympathies,” Castro said.

In a statement of condolences issued also on Friday, the DPWH cited Cabral’s more than 40 years of service in the agency prior to her resignation in September.
