‘Multiplying the good’ in times of crisis

Ferocious storms and torrential rains cause millions of pesos in property damage, along with other consequences our systems have yet to quantify.

In the province of Cavite, where the impacts of severe Tropical Storm “Crising” and the perennial southwest monsoon led to the declaration of a state of calamity, various stakeholders now deliver much-needed aid.

Help is on the way

This provides immediate and life-saving relief to affected families in various cities and municipalities. Beyond that, such assistance also helps them rediscover dignity and hope amid the ruin.

“In moments like these, what families need most is the reassurance that help is on the way,” said Angela Camins-Wieneke, executive director of BingoPlus Foundation, one of the organizations bringing much-needed relief to Cavite.

“At BingoPlus Foundation, we do our very best to act fast, to help put food on tables, lighten the burden, and remind them that they are not facing this alone,” she added.

BingoPlus Foundation is the social development arm of DigiPlus Interactive Corp., the company that introduced BingoPlus, ArenaPlus and GameZone to Filipinos. Driven by a mission to multiply the good, the foundation has helped distressed or vulnerable communities through humanitarian and developmental projects, among others.

Relief operations

This time, Cavite is among the focus areas.

The foundation, in coordination with Imus Councilor Mark Villanueva and other local officials, provided over 400 food relief packs to families in Barangays Poblacion 4A, Poblacion 4B, Malagasang 2B, and Anabu F, on July 26. That number was supplemented by the city government to bring the total number of beneficiaries to 455 families.

BingoPlus also donated 1,000 relief packs valued at P450,000 to families in Kawit, Cavite.

The Imus outreach was part of a new P5-million pledge made by DigiPlus and BingoPlus last week meant for relief efforts across areas affected by Crising. Meanwhile, the aid for Kawit was funded via a separate P2-million relief partnership with ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya, which began in 2024.

On top of the relief operations in Cavite, the foundation is set to deliver soon 100 cavans of rice, enough to support 800-plus families, to the National Resource Operations Center of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Pasay City.

More than 50 DigiPlus employees also pledged to volunteer in repacking efforts, marking one of the company’s largest hands-on community mobilizations to date.

Further relief operations are underway in affected areas in Metro Manila, Calabarzon Region and several provinces of North Luzon.

“We know that rebuilding doesn’t happen overnight,” Camins-Wieneke said. “That’s why we’re staying the course, not just responding to emergencies, but standing by communities as they rise again, stronger.”
