Big foreign field signs up for inaugural Guimaras leg
Eleven other countries will be represented on March 8 when the local triathlon season opens with Guimaras’ first-ever hosting of a 5150 event.
Filipinos will have the backing of a home crowd as triathletes navigate the scenic race course that the organizing Sunrise Events has prepared, which will be both a test of endurance, while having the chance to be crowned as the inaugural champion of the Guimaras triathlon.
The Olympic distance 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-km bike and 10-km run event officially kicks off the new Ironman season as the race marks a milestone not only for the province but for the continued surge of triathlon in a nation that has produced champions in regional competitions, including the Southeast Asian Games.
The international presence underscores the growing global pull of Ironman-branded races and highlights the Philippines’ steady rise as a premier endurance sports destination. But this time, it’s not just about participation—it’s about pride.
Expect Filipino bets to maximize their familiarity with the island’s rolling terrain and coastal winds, while foreign bets will have to deal with unfamiliar heat at this time of year.
Registration is still ongoing via ironman.com. For more information on the Ironman brand and global event series, visit ironman.com.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Sports Commission continues its commitment to developing elite and grassroots sports by supporting the Filipino Elite category of the event, further strengthening the country’s push to advance sports excellence and tourism.
Adding spice to the race weekend is the Sunrise Sprint (S2) Guimaras—a 750-meter swim, 20-km bike and 5-km run—designed for newcomers and speedsters seeking a fast, furious test without the full Olympic-distance grind.
