Dungca enters finals with third straight leg triumph

Strong rains failed to cool down Ronee Dungca in the final round of the ICTSI Junior PGT John Hay stop on Wednesday, as the 9-year-old easily made her way into the National Elite Finals with a third straight win in the girls’ 7-10 division.
The Angeles City native carved out a two-over-par 71 borne out of another hot start, tallying a 54-hole 143 for a 12-shot win over Tyra Garingalao to make the North squad and join Mavis Espedido as spearheads when they battle the South side next month at The Country Club in Laguna.
Winter Serapio seized the third finals berth with 37 points, while Garingalao clinched the fourth and final slot with 36 points on the strength of the crucial 12 points earned for finishing second after a closing 75 as rains softened the up-and-down course which caused a long delay.
In the boys’ 7-10, Zoji Edoc waltzed to a fourth leg title with a final round 71 for 142, 10 strokes ahead of local bet Marco Angheng, who fired a 78. Edoc, Zach Guico, Asher Abad and Halo Pangilinan make up the boys North squad.
Meanwhile, Vito Sarines rallied in the closing holes to carve out a 67 to finish in the top three of the North’s 11-14 boys team. Sarines tallied 135 to win by four shots over Zianbeau Edoc, who still made the finals roster after a 73.
Ryu Suzuki, the talented Filipino Japanese playing out of Manila Southwoods, Sarines and Edoc finished with 42-point totals for the top three slots, with the absent Jacob Casuga owning the fourth spot.
