Gallardo leads banner field seeking PGT cards at Splendido
A merry mix of seasoned campaigners, former national team members and a sprinkling of foreign flavor make up the 126-strong field taking part in the PGT Qualifying School that fires off March 17 at Splendido Golf in Laurel in Batangas.
Only 30 full-time cards will be staked in the 72-hole event, as they join the top 40 of last season, led by the indefatigable Angelo Que, as the first of 10 lucrative legs of the 2026 season tees off the following week.
Former Order of Merit champion Jobim Carlos and Eric Gallardo, who even made the main draw of the International Series Philippines won by Miguel Tabuena last October, are both in the field together with former PH Open and PH Masters champion Robert Pactolerin, among others.
Busy 2026 for Que
Former Q School medalist Toru Nakajima gives the PGT another shot as he headlines a 43-strong foreign contingent that is made up heavily of players coming from South Korea and Japan and even the United States.
Que topped the OOM race last year after three leg wins and a sustained effort and the 46-year-old had recently told the Inquirer that he will keep a busy schedule this season by juggling stints here and abroad.
“I will play as many events as I can,” Que, the former PH Open champion who won the OOM for the first time in a stories career, had said at Manila Southwoods, his home club. “Hopefully, I can have as strong a year as I did (last year). It will be tough to do, but it’s the target.”
Lakewood in Nueva Ecija will be the first stop of the circuit on March 24, before action goes to the South at Lake Caliraya the following week.
From there, it will be a trip up north once again as Pradera Verde hosts the third leg before the men of the tour take a crack at challenging Pinewood in Baguio.
No less than P2 million will be dangled per leg, with some of them being P3.5 million events.
The Ladies PGT will also get going at the same time at Lakewood, with the field getting bigger by the year.
