Que clings on to three-shot lead after gutsy 71
Angelo Que admits to finding something after mediocre stints in two big events, and the 46-year-old hopes it will hold for the rest of the week.
“I seem to have found something in my driving and putting,” Que told the Inquirer after assembling a one-under-par 71 on Tuesday to keep a three-shot lead in the P2 million ICTSI Pradera Verde Championship at the brand-new Pinatubo course in Lubao, Pampanga.
“I haven’t done anything special,” Que, who missed the cut in the Smart Infinity Philippine Open at Manila Southwoods at the start of the year, went on. “And I think when you hit it off the tees well and putt well, you can navigate a course, which practically none of us knows, better.”
Those in pursuit
Counting an opening 68, Que lead Carl Corpus and Keanu Jahns, who also carved out 71s on a windy day, and Aidric Chan and two others by four strokes heading into the money rounds as he shoots for a first win since his Philippine Masters triumph last year at Villamor.
“I just hope I get to play the same way,” Que, who had all three of his second round birdies in the back nine, added. “It would be nice to win early in the season, get that confidence level up.”
Corpuz’ day was a roller coaster ride, as he mixed an eagle and four birdies with two double bogeys and a bogey for a second straight 71, while Jahns had four birdies against three bogeys in a 37-34 that kept him well in the mix.
Meanwhile, the P1 million ladies division has become tight with Daniella Uy getting company at the top in Tiffany Lee at 142 after contrasting rounds.
Lee shot a 71, while Uy struggled to shoot a 74 as swirling gusts got the better of the overnight leader, with South Korean Seoyun Kim shooting a day-best 70 to be a stroke off.
