Uyking, Wacan post runaway JPGT wins
Johanna Uyking and AJ Wacan led the dominance of Davao bets in sweeping the 13-15 division of the ICTSI JPGT Mindanao Series I at Apo Golf and Country Club on Thursday as the duo earned valuable points for the national match play finals slated in October.
Uyking won by an astounding 24 hots over Mary Rose Wacan after closing out with a three-over-par 75 for a 54-hole 227 tally over the hazard-laden, tree-lined course, while Wacan also went wire-to-wire, shooting a 74 to win the boys’ side of the division by 23 shots over Joaquin Pasquil.
The second leg of the Mindanao series will be played at the flatter and wider South Pacific Golf layout, with Uyking and Wacan to tee off as the hands-down favorites in their respective classes.
“This victory is significant because all my hard work has paid off,” said Uyking, who will only turn 13 this year.
In the boys’ 16-18 division, local ace Aldrien Gialon edged closer to victory after shooting a third straight 78 for 234 over 54 holes to build a four-shot lead over South Cotabato’s Rainier Tagwalan going into the final round of the premier division of the PGT-organized event.
