GMA shifts to cloud-based IP distribution
GMA Network Inc. is shifting from a traditional satellite to cloud-based IP distribution to strengthen its global reach across its Filipino viewers abroad.
The media giant on Wednesday announced it is expanding its international channel roll out to the United States and Canada.
GMA formalized the terms under contract signing with Synamedia, a leading global video technology company, and its local distribution partner, Telered Technologies and Services Corp, held on Dec 16 at the GMA Network.
Under the agreement, GMA, through Synamedia’s Quortex Link platform, will distribute its international channels including GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News TV.
The collaboration with Synamedia first started in 2023 when GMA International adapted cloud-based distribution of its channels
Joseph Francia , first vice president and head of GMA International operations, said the network’s transition from satellite to IP enabled the company to significantly trim costs and streamline their operations.
“This transition is not just a technical upgrade but a strategic move to optimize our resources,” said Ari Chio, first vice president for administration and investor relations.
Chio added that for GMA, the shift meant “long-term sustainability and operational resilience in an increasingly digital global landscape.”
Earlier, the National Telecommunications Communication (NTC) mandated the shutdown of analog television service in Mega Manila by November 2026. This is part of the broader transition to digital broadcast service.
GMA, operating 115 TV stations and 21 radio stations, is now the leading network tallying 83.8 percent of viewership or 60 million Filipinos equivalent nationwide, based on Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.
