BCDA to convert Taguig land into school, community facilities

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has partnered with the City Government of Taguig to repurpose a parcel of land in Pamayanang Diego Silang for new school and community facilities.

Under a memorandum of agreement signed last Dec. 18, the BCDA and Taguig will develop a 1,110-square-meter (sq m) property.

The asset is currently under the supervision of the Senator Renato “Compañero” Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School.

This site had originally been planned as a sports complex, but will now be transformed to house education and community facilities. The goal is to deliver more direct benefits to students and residents.

The project also involves the Department of Education offices in Taguig City and Pateros.

“This partnership allows us to extend that commitment to Taguig by helping create accessible and inclusive learning spaces for the community,” said BCDA president and CEO Joshua Bingcang.

The BCDA is mandated to convert former US military bases into productive civilian use. It has backed similar initiatives in the past, including the National Academy of Sports in New Clark City, Tarlac.

Taguig Mayor Laarni Cayetano said the agreement ensures public land is used for the benefit of residents.

“This partnership advances our shared goal of making education a cornerstone of community development and ensuring that public spaces serve the people who need them most,” Cayetano said.

This partnership adds to the BCDA’s portfolio in Taguig, which includes a 61,761 sq m property that will be developed to house residential, commercial, office, hotel and recreational spaces.

The BCDA is developing this with the Gokongwei-led Robinsons Land Corp.

But perhaps the most prominent BCDA project in Taguig is the Bonifacio Global City.

Formerly the Fort Bonifacio military camp, it has been transformed into one of the country’s prime business and retail districts.
