Aircraft parts maker raises stake in PH
Less than a year after establishing a manufacturing base in a Philippine ecozone, a global aerospace parts manufacturer is expanding to Batangas, where it plans to produce components for export to markets including the United States and the United Kingdom.
The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) said Global Aerospace Technology Philippines Inc. is expanding its operations to First Philippine Industrial Park in Batangas, complementing its existing manufacturing facility at the Cavite Technopark Special Economic Zone in Naic.
At its new facility, the company plans to focus on manufacturing, fabrication, machining, injection molding, thermoforming and assembly of aerospace parts and components for international customers.
“This expansion demonstrates growing confidence in the Philippines as a competitive base for advanced manufacturing particularly for the aviation/aerospace industry,” Peza Director General Tereso Panga said in a statement.
Global Aerospace Technology, which first registered with Peza in February this year, manufactures and assembles unmanned aerial vehicles, unmanned aircraft systems, special-purpose machinery and aerospace components at its Cavite facility.
At the time, Panga had floated plans to cluster aviation-related investments, including those of Global Aerospace Technology, to develop “aerotropolis ecozones” in partnership with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.
Firm commitment
Panga said the company’s latest expansion could help strengthen the country’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities through technology and knowledge transfer, while creating opportunities for smaller businesses participating in the industry’s supply chain.
The expansion is also expected to support global aerospace companies Collins Aerospace and Safran Aerospace.
For its part, Global Aerospace Technology reaffirmed its commitment to developing the domestic aerospace industry.
“The company is committed to developing local capability, investing in people and technology, strengthening the Philippine aerospace supply chain, and supporting world-leading aerospace companies with high-quality, cost-competitive manufacturing solutions,” said company president and managing director Jason Carl Tyas.
Manufacturing remains a key investment driver for Peza, accounting for 89 of the 222 projects approved so far this year.
The agency’s total approved investments across all sectors stood at P297.14 billion.
Panga earlier expressed confidence that Peza could surpass its previous investment record this year, with four big-ticket projects worth at least P50 billion each in the pipeline.
