Megaworld, Emperador seen anchoring AGI’s growth
Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI) expects its diversified portfolio and healthy financial position to help cushion the conglomerate from geopolitical tensions and a challenging global economy, according to president and CEO Kevin Tan.
Speaking at the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting on Thursday, Tan said AGI entered 2026 with a strong balance sheet and ample liquidity across its businesses, giving the group enough flexibility to withstand external shocks without derailing its expansion plans.
“We entered 2026 with a strong balance sheet and sufficient liquidity across the group, which is what really matters when the outlook is uncertain like this,” Tan said.
He noted that inflation, interest rate volatility and softer global demand continue to weigh on business sentiment worldwide.
However, AGI’s subsidiaries maintain healthy cash positions and manageable debt levels, allowing them to continue investing for growth.
According to Tan, diversification remains one of the group’s biggest strengths. AGI’s exposure to property, spirits, tourism and gaming businesses helps spread risks across different sectors and revenue streams.
“Diversification across property, spirits and tourism, as well as across products and services, continue to work in our favor,” he said.
The conglomerate is also pursuing cost-efficiency measures across its businesses to protect profitability and strengthen resilience amid uncertain market conditions.
Among AGI’s core units, property giant Megaworld Corp. continues to drive growth. Tan said Megaworld posted record first-quarter earnings of more than P6 billion, supported by growth across all revenue streams.
Residential demand remained steady as buyers continued to favor integrated township developments, while office leasing stayed resilient. Megaworld also retained its position as the country’s top office lessor in terms of new leases for a third consecutive year.
The company launched its 37th township during the first quarter—a 97-hectare development in Negros Occidental—underscoring its confidence in long-term demand.
Meanwhile, liquor unit Emperador Inc. is relying on its broad portfolio of brandy and Scotch whisky brands to navigate softer global spirits demand.
Tan said the company’s presence across multiple price points enables it to capture demand from both value-conscious and premium consumers while continuing to benefit from long-term premiumization trends in whisky.
For tourism and gaming, AGI sees sustained opportunities through Travelers International Hotel Group Inc., operator of Newport World Resorts.
