Maximizing opportunities in Davao City

Avatar

Davao City has always been known as one of the thriving cities in the country given its sustained economic growth, business opportunities, and infrastructure development.

Flourishing industries

Seen as a significant driver in the economy of the region and the whole of Mindanao, this city has flourishing industries that have helped sustain its growth and development.

One would be the business process outsourcing sector. In fact, Davao City is said to be one of the most competitive outsourcing destinations in the country—even previously listed as one of the Philippine cities in Tholons’ Top 100 global sites for outsourcing. As a viable outsourcing hub outside Metro Manila, there are always job opportunities and investment openings in the city.

Davao City By The Numbers

Davao City is also deemed a powerhouse in the agribusiness industry. The abundant supply of agricultural products and raw materials in the region encourages continued investments in agribusiness, food production, and other agri-industrial processing.

The city is currently home to large coconut oil mills and activated charcoal plants. It also houses vast plantations for coconut, durian, banana, cacao, and other agricultural products.

‘Investment ready properties’

Given its consistent growth, the city has also seen its population expand, prompting the need for more residential and commercial real estate developments as well as “investment ready” properties. The last decade has thus seen an influx of national and homegrown developers wanting to tap the growing market in Davao City.

Damosa District

Among the homegrown developers, Damosa Land Inc. (DLI) easily comes to mind.

Since its first major project called the Damosa District in Lanang, Damosa Land steadily grew to become an icon of development in Mindanao.

The real estate arm of the Anflo Management and Investment Corporation (Anflocor) takes pride in being among the first movers in several real estate spaces in Mindanao.

The Damosa District, one of the first masterplanned developments in the city, is a mixed-use project with commercial, office, and hotel components. To date, this expanse houses the Anflocor Corporate Center, Damosa Gateway, Damosa Market Basket, Damosa Business Center, and the Peza-accredited Damosa IT Park.

In the residential space, Damosa Land has evolved from developing horizontal projects to putting up condominiums. Its maiden condominium project, the Seawind, won several international real estate awards.

In 2020, Damosa Land reaped nine awards at the Property Guru Philippines Property Awards, including the Best Boutique Developer which recognizes the company’s work to seamlessly bring to life its strong agricultural connection and its rich Mindanao heritage in its iconic projects.

New projects

Damosa Land is likewise on track for its condominium project on Samal Island, which the company plans to open by 2025.

As of September last year, the real estate company said over half of the inventory for its Bridgeport Park had already been sold for P2.6 billion. The 20,000-sqm project offers a total of 274 units. The amenities here include a marina, a dry dock boat parking space and a helipad. Other facilities include clubhouse, swimming pools, play areas, spa, gym, flexible work spaces and lounge.

Damosa also continues to be of service to the community. In March 2024, it was officially announced that University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) will soon have a new satellite campus in Panabo, Davao del Norte.

To be called UP Professional School for Agriculture and the Environment (UP PSAE), the school will be built on a 3-ha land within the sprawling Agriya agritourism development. It will offer master’s degrees in agriculture and environment. Aside from donating the land, Damosa is also putting up the first building in the campus.
